Trip to Dover Castle
Wednesday 18 October 2017

800 years ago the French King had taken Reigate Castle and was besieging Dover Castle and Windsor Castle; Dover Castle has always been a key to English history. Discover the old Roman lighthouse, enjoy views of the English channels from the old Admiralty look out, enter the WW2 underground hospital and also see where the save Dunkirk operation was planned. The highlight of the day is a guided tour of Henry 11’s Tower, which is only available for groups. You get tea and cake (or a £5 guide book) which makes the tour good value. The grounds take a lot of walking, wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for some steep slopes, though there is a land train within the Castle grounds.
